Publisher: American Composers Alliance
Date of Publication: 1993
Duration: Approx 10 minutes
Recordings:

Called "Quatrains" on recording.
Notes:
Pleskow's recent music combines traditional and contemporary harmonies
and is distinguished by its expressive melodic writing in unusual
textural settings. Completed in December of 1993, Quatrains consists
of seven epigrams interrelated by motivic ritornelli (refrains) and
intervalic unity while contrasting in texture, mood and tempo. Its
musical language is highly contrapuntal employing angular melodic
lines and a wide harmonic palette. Written for Max Lifchitz who
premiered it in January of 1994, the work was described by the New
York Times as "... a tersely expressive ... neo-Lisztian essay...."
The composer hopes that the music of Quatrains will evoke that of a
canzona, a favorite genre of the Renaissance madrigalists.
