A woman was surprised Monday night when she reached into a box of Church's Fried Chicken and pulled out a live mouse. Nedra Russell, a Detroit police officer, said she visited a Roseville Church's Chicken/White Castle franchise where she bought the box of chicken. "I just screamed and slammed the lid, the box down and shoved it all into a bag," said Nedra.

Nedra said she had stopped to buy dinner for herself and her three children at the drive-through window of the Church's Chicken. "I ate a piece of the chicken and put it back in and didn't touch it until we got back home again. That's when I found the mouse," said Nedra.

After finding the mouse, Nedra's children, who had already eaten their cheeseburgers without incident, lost their appetites too.

Nedra reported her discovery Tuesday morning to the Macomb County Health Department. An inspector visited the store and checked inside and out for signs of a rodent infestation. Nedra said, "The restaurant needs to be thoroughly inspected, and the employees there need to be taught what to look for. The mouse was obviously in the box when they put the chicken in there. How do you not see a mouse in the box or how does the mouse get into the box?"

Health inspection reports for the past five years indicate that no evidence of rodents has been found inside the restaurant. The results were the same for Tuesday's visit as well.

The owner of the restaurant believes the Nedra is making the story up. Nedra's children think the mouse makes a great pet.
