   Mr. Pleskow writes:

"The 3 Bagatelles with Contrabass were written for Bertram Turetsky
in the Summer of 1965. The first Bagatelle is for solo bass and
consists of two musical events of different characters, interrupting
each other. The second bagatelle is for flute, clarinet (alternating
with bass clarinet), vibraphone and bass involved in the adjacency of
sharply contrasting material. The third bagatelle, a duo dfor flute
and bass, consists of limited material dispersed betwee the two
instruments in various hingungs and realignments. Some of the 'thematic'
content of the first bagatelle is reinvolved in the second and third
   of the short pieces."
